Target Shooting at the Coulee

I've heard distant gunfire on many occasions, but last weekend I was treated to fusillades of semi-automatic handgun fire from the vicinity of the nearby Pond. I have learned that it is perfectly legal. I think it sucks.

I remember being camped out with a friend back in 1998 or 1999 with a friend whom had never climbed there in the Coulee. While climbing 'Clip em and Skip em' an army helicopter came into the valley and hovered about 50 feet in front of us to the south at about the same elevation. I could see the pilot staring at us through the ****pit window, and from the looks of it, the chopper was fully armed with rockets and missiles. Scarred the crap out of both of us, my friend being a former army recruit himself. Later that evening we heard automatic gun fire near what had to be the top of mesa above the Middle East Wall. Needless to say, we didn't sleep too much that night.
