National Trails Day is June 3, and we're going to be doing some trailwork on the Eightmile Creek Trail, the access trail serving 3:00 Rock in Darrington. The project will be managed by the Everett branch of the Mountaineers, but any interested climbers will be welcome to participate. Plan for good weather and we'll do some climbing as well as work on the trail.

There are lots of flowers out there in Darrington right now and, today anyway, lots of dry rock too. Come on out on Saturday and we'll do some trailwork and some climbing.

Send me an email and we'll set up to climb after working.

We did amazing things with the trail yesterday, and I think most folks had a pretty good time, too. Mark and I hiked back up to climb Silent Running after the bulk of the work party headed back to town for a barbeque.

I posted a photo of some of the work on cc.com, here:

I was up on the Eighmile Trail last weekend and noted that the Forest Service had not yet removed the trees that we had been unable to remove ourselves. Since the area is wilderness, we had offered to use a bow saw to take them out, but we were told not to do it, the FS would do it. Back in June, we removed as many branches as we could and made a step so one could climb up on the log to get over it, but that was all we could do. It's now been two months. Seem like it's about time those logs get taken out.
