State Parks and the Reiter Trail Watch Group (http://www.reitertrailwatch.org/) along with input from the WCC and interested climbers created a plan to terminate the road leading to the Upper Wall at the Park Boundary. The project's goals were to reduce the dumping of trash off the Upper Wall, reduce the chance of hiker/climber injury from thrown objects and to reduce unregulated traffic on State Parks property. Objects ranging from camper canopies to beer bottles have been thrown off the Upper Wall and recently thrown objects have become a very real danger to hikers and climbers. Reiter Trail Watch is a not-for profit group of volunteers working to preserve, protect, increase awareness and maintain accessibility for all outdoor enthusiasts.
About a year ago after several close calls where climbers came very close to being hit by thrown objects, a group of climbers got together and discussed possible solutions to the problem. Then WCC members along with State Parks personnel attended a Reiter Trail Watch Meeting and discussed the situation and several possible solutions. The Trail Watch group was very friendly and concerned about the problem. At the meeting's end it was determined that ongoing education efforts and increased signage warning of the danger of thrown objects were actions that could be taken immediately. Over the last several years State Parks has placed several generations of signs only to see them almost immediately become debris at the cliff base. During the summer the Watch Group and State Parks devised the road termination plan. The WCC provided funds for the materials and the Reiter Group installed the barricade in late October.
Thanks to both the State Parks and the Reiter Watch group!
View of the barricade: (Sorry my flash was on and the barricade's reflectors created a bit of flare)

Vandalized sign warning of the danger thrown objects present:I think this one of the third generation of signs that State Parks has installed. This one is located near the edge of the cliff.
