Hello all-

I would like to start the discussion about the proposed DUSEL project under Cashmere Mtn., and what position the WCC will take regarding this project.

I believe that this project is big enough that the WCC cannot remain silent/neutral without losing credibility among climbers.

I definitely have my own opinions regarding the stance I'd like to see the WCC take, but I'd like to post some relevant links for those who are unfamiliar with the issue.

Pro-DUSEL sites & background

Opposition to DUSEL

I look forward to hearing everyone's comments.

Thanks for the links Cory. Based on what I have read, I certainly have developed an opinion on this. As far as the Icicle as a climbing area, this will definitely impact the experience of climbing there. The heavy traffic, noise, let alone the impact on the Icicle and the surrounding Wilderness area are issues that I think the WCC should speakup about. Anyone else have an opinion on this matter?

Seems like the best thing we can do right now is to get information out in front of climbers. Maybe we should organize a public meeting or two for the proponents and opponents to talk about the project, including addressing questions specifically of interest to climbers. Maybe have one meeting in Leavenworth and one in Seattle.

It seems like it wouldn't be hard to find motivated people in Leavenworth to help put something on...there seems to be a pretty active group working there...although I haven't seen to much in the way of pro-NUSEL signs, there are anti-NUSEL signs and signups everywhere.

I just found out about this July fourth weekend when I stopped in for Dinner at Gustav's in Leavenworth. It seams to me the WCC needs to get the word out as much as possible to provide info about this absurd project. I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't yet know what DUSEL/NUSEL is all about. This project might have some beneficial aspects, but it absolutely does not belong in the Icicle. Any ideas for informing and motivating the troops?
